Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway

An old mill on a quiet millpond

Mabry Mill, at milepost 176 of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Meadows of Dan, Virginia, is an old water-powered mill on a millpond. The National Park Service says Ed and Lizzy Mabry ground corn, sawed lumber and did blacksmith work here for about three decades. A half-mile loop, the Mountain Industry Trail, wanders past the mill and the other historic buildings.

We stopped in late May 2020, on a grey, green day with the pond perfectly still.

🥾 The day before: the Bicentennial Greenway

The evening before, we walked part of the Bicentennial Greenway in Jamestown, North Carolina. It is a paved greenway that links High Point and Greensboro, with its southern end at the Piedmont Environmental Center, and boardwalks and footbridges where it crosses the wet woods along the creeks.
