A steep loop to a cascading waterfall off NC 181
Upper Creek Falls is in the Grandfather Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest, with a trailhead right on NC 181 in the Jonas Ridge area of Burke County. The Forest Service describes the Upper Creek Falls Trail as a loop to the falls, rated most difficult, hiking only. Burke County calls it a steep trail to a long cascading waterfall.

We went in early April 2024, a cold, bright day with no leaves yet. The trail drops steeply past huge boulders to the creek, where the water slides over wide, smooth rock.
