An easy river walk on the Haw River Trail
Great Bend Park at Glencoe in Burlington is about 20 wooded acres on the Haw River, with almost a mile of river frontage beside the historic Glencoe Mill Village and its dam. The Haw River Trail, which is also part of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, runs about a mile upstream and a mile downstream from the park on flat, easy ground.
We went on a bright January day. The river was running high over the dam, and the boardwalks along the bank made for an easy walk.
