Seven miles around the lake in peak color
The Salem Lake Trail in Winston-Salem is a wide, mostly dirt path that, in the city’s words, “encircles Salem Lake” for 7 miles. It is shared by walkers, runners, cyclists and horseback riders, has mile markers, and connects to the Salem Creek Greenway.

We walked the full loop on a cool morning in late October 2025, with the trees at the water’s edge turning orange and gold and reflecting in the lake.
